Winter Berry Hibiscus

Hibiscus — tartness and color. Hibiscus provides the beautiful ruby-red color and bold tart flavor. It's essentially the flavor backbone of the blend and prevents the tea from becoming overly sweet.

Rosehips — fruity depth. Rosehips have a pleasantly tart, fruity character that naturally complements hibiscus. They deepen the berry-like flavor without needing artificial flavoring.

Apple — natural sweetness. Apple is particularly important here because hibiscus and rosehips are both tart. Apple softens that acidity and gives the tea a rounder, more balanced fruit flavor.

Elderberries — dark berry character. Elderberries contribute a deeper, richer fruit note. Traditionally, elderberry has a long history of use in seasonal herbal preparations. For a beverage blend, I would use commercially dried elderberries intended for tea/food use and brew the blend thoroughly rather than treating raw elderberries as a snack ingredient.

Orange peel — citrus lift. Orange peel prevents all the dark fruit flavors from becoming one-dimensional. Its citrus aroma brightens the cup and connects especially well with hibiscus.

Cinnamon — winter warmth. Without cinnamon, this could easily taste like a summertime fruit tea. Cinnamon shifts the flavor firmly toward winter while rounding out the tart fruit.

Why they work together: You have a really nice tart → sweet → deep → warm progression. Hibiscus and rosehips provide tartness, apple balances them with sweetness, elderberry gives depth, orange provides brightness, and cinnamon brings everything back to the winter theme.
